Getting a vaccination is easy and convenient at Forrest Hill Family Pharmacy.
Our team is able to provide a number of vaccinations. Come in to ask about vaccinations that protect against influenza, also called the flu, whooping cough and tetanus, meningococcal disease, shingles and Covid-19.
Our Pharmacists are trained vaccinators, and this makes getting a vaccination really convenient. With your permission, we send the vaccination details to your Doctor so your records will be always up to date.

COVID VACCINATION
Latest up-to-date boosters

We offer primary & Booster vaccines. Walk in 9am - 5pm Mon-Friday. If you require a vaccination on a weekend, please phone ahead and check with the Pharmacist on duty if they are available. No charge for Covid Vaccination.

Covid-19 Booster recommended for everyone over 30 years old, if it has been 6 months since your last Covid Infection or last Covid Vaccine.

Children's Covid Vaccinations  (age 5 to 12 years) Mondays 2pm-4pm, only available by appointment via BookMyVaccine.health.nz

FLU VACCINATION 

Walk in's 9am-5pm weekdays, no appointment necessary. If you require a vaccination on a weekend, please phone ahead and check with the Pharmacist on duty if they are available. Eligibility criteria for FREE seasonal influenza vaccination*:
- Pregnant women (any trimester)
- People aged 65 years and older

People aged under 65 years with any of the medical conditions listed below
have any of the following cardiovascular diseases:

  • ischaemic heart disease, or

  • congestive heart failure, or

  • rheumatic heart disease, or

  • congenital heart disease, or

  • cerebrovascular disease; or

have either of the following chronic respiratory diseases:

  • asthma, if on a regular preventative therapy, or

  • other chronic respiratory disease with impaired lung function; or

have diabetes; or
have chronic renal disease; or
have any cancer, excluding basal and squamous skin cancers if not invasive; or
have any of the following other conditions:

  • autoimmune disease, or

  • immune suppression or immune deficiency, or

  • HIV, or

  • transplant recipient, or

  • neuromuscular or CNS disease/disorder,c or

  • haemoglobinopathy,d or

  • children on long-term aspirin, or

  • a cochlear implant, or

  • error of metabolism at risk of major metabolic decompensation, or

  • pre- or post-splenectomy, or

  • Down syndrome

WHOOPING COUGH/TETANUS/DIPHTHERIA

Booster doses of Boostrix (containing vaccines for whooping cough, tetanus, and diphtheria) are available free to eligible people, and at a cost of $50 to ineligible people. No appointment needed, walk in 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Phone ahead on weekends to check availability.

Boostrix is free and recommended for pregnant people in their second and third trimester. Vaccination protects a baby until it is old enough to receive its own vaccinations. A new booster dose is recommended every pregnancy. People who will be in close contact with a newborn baby, such as fathers, grandparents and other close whanau are also recommended to get a Boostrix dose every 5 to 10 years (this is not funded).

A booster dose is also scheduled for all people at 65 years old. This dose is free of charge and is mainly intended to top up your tetanus immunity. If you are not sure whether you have received this dose, check with us or your doctor.

A Boostrix booster is recommended (but not funded) every 5 to 10 years for people with chronic lung conditions, those who work in health care, and those who work with young children.


SHINGLES

The shingles vaccination (Shingrix) is recommended and funded for people who are 65 years old. The course is two vaccinations, with two to six months between doses. You must be 65 to receive funding for the first vaccination, but can be 66 to complete the second dose. People who are over 65 are still recommended to receive the vaccine, but it is not funded. Vaccination is available without an appointment, any time between 9.00am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday.

Dispensing and Compounding Prescription Medications

With the presentation of a viable NZ prescription from your health practitioner. 

Smoking cessation

Our Pharmacy staff are trained to provide a service to help people to stop smoking. This service includes advice and providing quit smoking support aides e.g. nicotine gum.

We can provide a funded Smoking Cessation Service. Quit smoking free of charge. Can dispense 3 monthly lots of nicotine replacement therapy and continual supply thereafter if needed. 

No charge to patient.

Supply of Selected Oral Contraception

Our Pharmacists are trained to prescribe selected oral contraceptive pill for patients upon consultation. 

Long-term conditions (LTC) service

This service is designed for people with long-term illnesses who may need support with their medicines. An assessment is used to identify the things that affect their ability to take medication as prescribed.

Pharmacists work together with the patient to address each issue. The pharmacist is able to assist you with managing your medications and can coordinate your medications so that your prescription repeats happen all at the same time and therefore require only one trip to have your prescriptions refilled.

They can also provide you with a reminder service (via text message, email or phone call) to let you know when your next supply of medications is ready for collection.

If you are having difficulties managing your medicines (e.g. forgetting to take them), please ask your pharmacist whether this service is right for you.

Free after hours prescriptions for under 14s

We are able to fill your under-14 year old's prescription for free (if the medication is fully funded) both within normal working hours and after hours.

Maviret dispensing for hepatitis C

Our pharmacy has been registered to dispense Maviret (glecaprevir and pibrentasvir) for the treatment of Hep C and to provide you with counselling to support your treatment. You will not have to pay any pharmacy charges for your Maviret.


Other Pharmacy Services

Strep Throat testing

Simple swab done which will indicate positive or negative result. Can supply antibiotic to appropriate patient if positive.

$25 service fee + $5 for antibiotic if needed


Southern Cross easy-claiming

Simply present your member card to us with your prescriptions. If your plan covers the product and it qualifies, Southern Cross will reimburse you directly. 

No paperwork, no hassle. 

Emergency contraceptive pill (ECP)

Our pharmacists are trained to assess whether the ECP is appropriate for you. This is done in a confidential manner. The ECP works best if taken as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse but may be taken up to 72 hours after. There is a charge associated with receiving the ECP.

Can supply Emergency Contraceptive Pill to those customers who are valid for supply upon consultation. 

Blister packs

Our pharmacy can provide you with individually made blister packs of your medicines. These can be supplied weekly, fortnightly, or monthly depending on your needs.

This type of packaging can help you to take your medicine at the right time. It can also make it easier to see if you have missed a dose or are running out. Blistering is useful if you are travelling as it avoids having to take multiple containers. Liquids are not able to be blister packed.

Urinary Tract Medication

Our pharmacy has trained pharmacists who can supply the antibiotic, trimethoprim, for women aged between 16 and 65 who have an uncomplicated urinary tract infection.

Sildenafil dispensing for erectile dysfunction

Our pharmacy has specially trained pharmacists who are able to prescribe sildenafil for erectile dysfunction in men aged 35 – 70 years who meet specific assessment criteria.

Can supply Sildenafil to men between age of 35 - 70 years if applicable upon consultation. Can give up to 12 tablets at one time and dose depends on patient.

Selected oral contraceptives

Our specially trained pharmacists can supply selected oral contraceptives without a prescription under certain circumstances.

Up to six months’ supply of selected oral contraceptives can be sold to women who have previously been prescribed the same oral contraceptive within the last three years and who have not developed any risk factors.

There is a charge for both the medicine and the consultation when you receive this service.

WINZ and other reports

If you require reports on your medicines or the cost of your medicines please ask a member of the pharmacy team.

Medicine & needles disposal service

Unwanted medicines are often dumped into the toilet, tipped down the sink or put out with the garbage, which starts a journey that can seriously harm the environment. Please return any expired or unwanted medicines, or needles/lancets and syringes to your pharmacy. In doing so, we can make our home a safer place, help safeguard our community and protect our environment. There is no charge for this service.

Ear piercing & nose piercing

Can pierce all ages. Can do lobes and cartilage. 

Passport photos

We can provide online digital passport photos as well as physical prints. Also have application forms available on site, both for new and renewable passports.
